Fontaines D.C.

Formed in Dublin in 2014, Fontaines D.C. have emerged as one of the defining forces in modern post-punk and alternative rock. The quintet originally bonded at music college over a mutual devotion to poetry, translating their literary roots into visceral, socially observant anthems characterized by gritty urban realism and biting romanticism. They broke onto the international stage with their acclaimed 2019 debut album Dogrel, earning widespread critical praise as well as nominations for the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize. Rather than repeating their early formula, the band steadily pushed their songwriting into moodier, more ambitious territory across subsequent records, culminating in the expansive sonic evolution heard on their 2024 full-length release Romance. The band’s signature arrangements rely on a rhythm section of propulsive drums and thumping bass that locks into a relentless motorik groove, allowing twin electric guitars to oscillate between jagged, dissonant riffs and textured, atmospheric chords that frame Grian Chatten’s impassioned vocal delivery.
