What are good alternatives to the Shure SM58 for vocals?

The Shure Beta 58A, Sennheiser e935 and Sennheiser e945 are worth comparing with the Shure SM58 for vocals. Choose by auditioning them with your own voice rather than assuming a higher price means a better match.
The Shure SM58 is a dynamic cardioid vocal microphone. If you are considering alternatives, a useful shortlist is the Shure Beta 58A, Sennheiser e935 and Sennheiser e945.
Compare them at similar listening levels with your usual vocal technique. Listen for intelligibility, how naturally each reproduces your voice, and whether handling noise is distracting; for live use, also test feedback behaviour with your monitor setup.
The supplied SM58 price is in euros, while the alternatives are listed in pounds, so the figures are not directly comparable without conversion. For second-hand options, browse the Used vocal microphones list and check each microphone’s condition and seller’s return policy.
