Linda McCartney was an American musician, photographer, and animal rights activist, best known for her contributions to the rock band Wings. Born Linda Eastman in 1941, she first gained prominence as a professional photographer, capturing iconic images of 1960s rock legends. Her musical career began in 1971 when she joined her husband, Paul McCartney, in forming Wings. As a core member of Wings, McCartney primarily played keyboards and provided backing vocals, occasionally taking lead on tracks like "Seaside Woman." Her musical style, often described as pop rock and rock, blended an accessible melodic sensibility with raw energy. Despite initial critical skepticism regarding her musical abilities, her presence was integral to the band's aesthetic and dynamic. Wings achieved significant global success, earning multiple Grammy Awards and delivering chart-topping hits such as "Band on the Run" and "Live and Let Die." Her contributions on organ and synthesizer added texture and warmth to the band's diverse sound. Linda McCartney remained an active member of Wings until the band's dissolution in 1981 and continued her artistic and advocacy work until her passing in 1998.
