Prince Rogers Nelson, known mononymously as Prince, was a visionary American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 7, 1958, he became a towering figure in popular music over a career spanning five decades. Prince was celebrated for his eclectic and innovative sound, which seamlessly blended funk, soul, rock, pop, jazz, and R&B. His discography included a remarkable array of styles, touching upon hip-hop, electronic, Latin, and neo-psychedelia, always underpinned by a distinctive flair. His 1984 album *Purple Rain* and its accompanying film achieved worldwide acclaim, solidifying his status as a global superstar and earning him an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score.
