What is the benefit of an aluminium straight mute?

An aluminium straight mute gives a trumpet a bright, piercing tone with a characteristic metallic ‘zing’, useful in classical and jazz music. Its lightweight construction is another benefit.
The main benefit is its distinctive sound: an aluminium straight mute adds a bright, piercing edge rather than simply making the trumpet quieter. It suits passages that call for that characteristic muted ‘zing’ in classical or jazz playing.
The Harmon Trumpet Straight Barrel Shape Mute Aluminum is an example of this type. Aluminium also keeps the mute lightweight, making it a practical choice when you want that particular tonal colour.
